Trip to Japan-Part 3-The Wedding Ceremony

It is a 9 hour time difference between Salt Lake City and Kanazawa, Japan.  The wedding ceremony started at 12 p.m. Upon arrival at the Garden where the wedding would take place, Farrah, our 3 year old was hysterical. She kept crying and we could not speak to anyone so we took a short walk around the garden. Once she had a snack and calmed down we were escorted to the Temple entrance. We had to remove our shoes before we could enter the temple. There was a rack to put our shoes on. Farrah just pulled her shoes off left them on the steps and ran in! Once inside, we were led to a large room where the Groom was being dressed in traditional japanese robes. There were chairs on one side of the room for us to sit on. As the other guests arrived, they all sat on the floor, which is traditional in Japan. Farrah was so hyper at this point and she loved all the attention. She ran around the room and ran up to people. Thankfully everyone thought she was adorable and I hope her behavior was not disrespectful.  The Bride and Groom sat at the front of the room and we just watched them and took pictures. I was unaware if this was the ceremony or not. We were distracted with the two kids and trying to get my Mother-In-Law on Skype so she could see what has happening. After about an hour, our names were called in the order we were supposed to enter the actual Temple.  At the time they called our names, Britten had stepped out to take Farrah to the bathroom.  I was worried as they announced we HAD to enter the temple in the order our names were called! Thankfully they came out of the bathroom at the exact moment I walked by so we could enter the Temple together! We were seated on little stools at the front of the temple directly across from the Bride's family. The ceremony started and I was so nervous about our kids behaving and being quiet.  We could not understand anything that was happening as it was in Japanese. The "preacher" or whatever he was called was wearing robes and a tall hat. He kept bowing and chanting. Part way through, our baby started crying so I had to take her outside. One of the ladies that worked at the Temple took Jade and I snuck back into the Temple. Only a few minutes later I could hear Jade screaming! So back outside I went where I stayed for the duration of the wedding. From what I am told, my 3.5 year old was very good but they served her Sake at the end of the Ceremony! The Bride's family giggled when they saw her sour expression! After the ceremony we took formal pictures outside the Temple. As we are family of the Groom, we were in the front of most of the pictures. I can only pray that my children smiled some or at least looked at the camera!
