Road trip tips

Spring break is coming up in a few weeks! We flew a lot when our girls were a little because my husband worked for Delta Airlines. But now he has a job with no flight benefits so we have to drive anywhere. We have done 4 road trips so far since moving to Northern Kentucky. We always drive during the day, with a very early start! The easiest we can,  4 am is best! Have the car packed the night before. If you can bring coffee and water so you don’t have to stop for awhile. If kids stay asleep and you can wait to pee, drive until you need gas. We have made it 4 hours! At this time stop at a gas station, bathroom break/ diaper change. Snack or cheap toy purchase. I usually hit the dollar store before we leave so I have a bag full of easy toys and crafts. Other ideas I have used include; stuff to make sandwiches, time your mid day stop at a rest stop so kids can run around, some even have small playgrounds or wooded trails (Wisconsin). Portable DVD players can entertain the older kids for

When life throws you lemons

Life is always a little on the crazy side when you have 3 kids. The walks to school, pickups, keeping the laundry done. We have a big house with lots of rooms to clean and organize. If something gets lost or a favorite toy is missing we have to search so many rooms. We are always rushing to get out the door on time in the morning. Making sure everyone has socks on or appropriate clothing for the weather. Always having to run all the way back upstairs if one kid forgot socks or we can't find a hair tie. My oldest still needs help picking out her clothes and getting her hair combed and up in a pony tail. My younger daughter likes to pick out her own clothes, never likes her hair combed and barely eats breakfast. She is the ultimate snacker. She has always been on the lowest side of the scale at the Pediatricians office. She pretty much has been off the chart, I mean the bottom of the chart since she was 1 year old. Most days I am just happy if she eats something! Even if it is a ri

Kyler's birth Story

Getting pregnant with a 3rd baby was a big surprise for us. After having our 2 girls my husband would mention how he needed to get a Vasectomy. I slowly purged out all our basic baby equipment, but I held on to the crib and baby girl clothes. But shortly into January 2018, I was just not quite feeling like myself and decided to take a pregnancy test.  Of course, it was positive and baby was on his way. We found out early on that we were having a boy. I planned to have another natural delivery and had all my maternity care at the Hospital in Murray, about 30 minutes from our home. I saw a Midwife practice and was happy with my choice for another natural delivery. I was hoping the hospital was going to offer water birth options. My baby was due on September 24, 2018.  Throughout the pregnancy I had this feeling that I would delivery early. I worked out every day and kept up cardio, weights and yoga until my due date.  My Dad and G (his fiance) flew in the weekend before my due date to he

Spartan Sprint Race while pregnant

Image
My husband and I got into Spartan racing last summer. Our first race was the Utah Super (6 miles) in August 2017. Our second race was the Michigan Sprint (5 miles) in September. We finished our first TRifecta, completing all 3 race distances in one year with the Central Florida Beast in December (13 miles).  We went ahead and purchased a Trifecta pass for this year, excited to improve our speed and technique on obstacles and try out some races in different states. We discovered its a great way to have an active vacation!  Well in January, I started to feel off, not like myself.  I so was moody and realized my period was late!! To our utter surprise, I was pregnant! We already have 2 girls and were getting ready to pull the plug (Vasectomy!) on the idea of any more kids.  I was still training hard through the first trimester and I was not showing yet so we decided to drive down to Mesquite, Nevada and run a Sprint race this past weekend. I was nervous as I was not sure how my body w

From yoga/runner to Sparten!

I decided to challenge myself and take myself out of my comfort zone and try a Sparten race. It turns out that the race closest to my house is a Sparten Super. It will be 8-10 miles plus 25 obstacles. The training has left me sore, starving and very cranky! I have learned to climb a rope, scale an 8 foot wall, practiced monkey bars, swung from rings, and played on the kids playground. I have been running for about 6 years. And when I say running, I mean, 7 Half Marathons, 1 full marathon, 4-5 10K races, and too many 5K's over the years to remember. After having my first daughter I took up yoga. I have been practicing up to 4 days a week for over 2 years now. I love the intensity of Hot Vinyasa. It starts with a mediation and slow movement. As you slowly warm up your body, the heat in the room creeps up to 100 degrees. The combination of the heat and movement leave your body, more flexible, calm and feeling amazing. I truly believe it is therapy and a workout in one! My Sparten

Hiking Provo Canyon in Spring

First off research where you are going before you hike! We tried to visitBridal Veil falls this past weekend but it is closed due to Avalanche risks. Luckily Nunn falls nearby is open and there is a river, nice paved trail, and small playground perfect for the 2-6 age range! We let the kids play and then took a short stroller friendly walk. The only difficulty was an abundance of people on skateboards so keep your little ones close by! On Sunday we went to Grotto Falls. This was a short muddy hike!! Only .5 miles 1 way but not a great Spring hike if you aren't looking to get wet or muddy! I wore white/light grey capris which got muddy! Thankfully we had hiking boots on so feet stayed dry. We saw some hiking barefoot, and many people not prepared for the terrain. I kept our 2 year old in the Ergo baby carrier the whole time. I would recommend trying Grotto falls later in the summer!

Flying alone with 2 kids

Anyone else make the daring decision to fly alone with a 4 and 21 month old? I have flown numerous  times with my older daughter and 2-3 times with both girls. Today will be the first time I drive to the airport and do the entire trip alone. I have 2 small spinner suitcases packed. I will use a backpack to hold snacks/toys. I am bringing a DVD player and a Kids Fire tablet. Lots of snacks!! Popcorn, crackers, cheese sticks, and sippy cups. I weighed my 4 year old and finally weighs 40 pounds!! Hurray! So no more lugging the heavy Car seat. I will have my Dad pick us up a booster seat to keep at his house.      We live across the country from all our family. Traveling is a way of life if we want to see family. Our girls are TSA experts. I always bring the stroller as walking gate to gate for a 4 year old sometimes works and sometimes they are too tired or cranky. I have never flown with my big double Bob stroller. I just use my single Britax and squeeze both kids in. I always wear
