Peanut & Soybean Allergy diagnosis

Image
I got my allergy test results back on Tuesday and to my surprise, I am allergic to Peanuts and Soybeans! I have been eating peanut butter every night mixed with my Whey protein. The whole time I thought the Whey protein was bothering me, when low and behold its the peanut butter!! The last few days have been very stressful as my husband and I start reading labels. Soy is an ingredient in so many foods! I can't just reach in the pantry and grab a snack anymore! I have to read the back of everything! Last night we got pizza from Marco's Pizza. They were able to make me a pizza that contained no Soy! They were very helpful and remade the pizza for me just to make sure. For lunch today we went to Potbelly. I ordered a Farmhouse salad. The girl working was very helpful and brought out a book that listed all the ingredients in their products. It made it easy to order and feel comfortable with what I was eating. I don't know how long I have had this allergy or if it has develope

Week 4 of Gluten & Dairy Free diet

Image
Hello All! I am on week 4 of No Dairy and no Gluten. I also gave up eggs, peanuts, beans and rice. The only thing I haven't given up is my morning Coffee. I did switch to Almond milk creamer though. We spent the past week in Atlanta for my sisters wedding. Finding ways to eat around all my issues was tough! Lots of salad and a great dinner at a BBQ place that had Gluten free sauce! So yummy! On the way home we had Ribs and I had a great lunch in the Denver airport. They had many Gluten free options on the menu and the waitress was great to point out which ones tasted best. I was easily able to request no dairy. All these amazing changes and I am still having digestive problems. No changes at all. I can tell that I have lost a good amount of fat around my middle though as my jeans are now loose. Today I met with a Gastroenterologist. They are going to take some tests to find out if I have a Pathogen, Allergy or am Celiac. I am really anxious at this point to get some answers. But I

My fitness and Dietary journey

I first got serious about fitness after I order my size 6 wedding dress back in 2010. We were planning a wedding in Miami so I got a low back, beaded strap, very fitted dress.  I found it in a wedding magazine and never thought it would look good on me, but once I tried it on I loved it. For our honeymoon we decided on an 11 day Caribbean cruise. So in total, I figured I would have to wear a bikini for 15 days straight! 4 days in Miami with our friends and family for our wedding, I wanted to look amazing. Followed by 11 days on a boat and on excursions with my new, very muscular and fit husband.  We ate clean(ish) and I hit the gym like I had never done before in my life. I went to Boot camp classes, did step aerobics and lifted weights. And viola it worked. I was at my lowest weight since high school on my wedding day, 129 pounds. I rocked a white bikini on the beach and wore lots of short tight dresses on our honeymoon. I did a half marathon in October of 2011, had baby Number 1, d

Hiking in Salt Lake City with small kids-Cecret Lake

Image
Britten and I enjoy spending time outdoors and enjoying the mountains here in Salt Lake City. At the beginning of the summer we invested in good water-proof hiking boots. We did about 8 hikes last summer so I think this is a hobby we will really enjoy while living here on the Wasatch Front. Each time we go out we hope our 4 year old will be willing to hike on her own. After having many difficult hiking excursions last summer, we went to REI and invested in a Poco Plus carrier. It is a structured carrier that comes with an attached backpack. It is a lifesaver! We would not be able to hike with Farrah without it. This past Saturday we hiked up to Cecret Lake from Alta Resort. We parked our car and had to wait in line to take the shuttle up to start the hike. Once off the shuttle the hike to Cecret lake is only 1 mile. This seemed to be a good distance to do with a 4 year old and 1 year old. Our 1 year old has been a baby-wearing baby her whole life. She enjoys being attached to me s

Training for a Half Marathon while Breast feeding

As I am getting on the treadmill for my last Speed work before my race I wanted to write about my journey. Many people ask when did you get back to running after having a baby? I chose to have a natural child birth this time around. My baby came out fast and furious so I had more tearing, 2nd degree, than I had the first time. But I had done yoga and weights my whole pregnancy so the recovery went well. I was back to running at 5 weeks. My dad and his girlfriend bought me a Bob Duellie Revolution Flex. Best gift ever! I got the car seat attachment and started running with baby. I stayed on the amazing smooth trail by our house. My pace was super slow starting out. I was hanging on to about 15 pounds of baby weight. I had to start tracking my calories and eating better. Once I lost those pesky pounds around 4 mo pp I cut back in my running and focused on toning up with weights and yoga. I started back running with short runs and worked on my speed in December. Once I got myself comforta

Suddenly have time for....?!

I am sure most moms out there that stay home with there kids have had that moment when the house is quiet. Maybe both your kids happen to be napping at the same time. Unmm rarely! Or your husband took one of the kids with him to run errands. Sometimes voluntarily lol! Or in my case, my 3 year old is finally potty- trained and can start preschool! Signal chimes and confetti!! It took until September, literally after 1.5 years of attempted potty training. I would like to say I have some magic advice on potty training a difficult child, but she just finally figured it out on her own! I called my system "gentle" potty training. But I digress, this is about the fact that I now have 2.5 hours twice per week with only the baby and I! With school starting at 9 the baby always falls asleep on the way home. I am not very domestic and always tired so at first, I usually relax and catch up on some Bravo Reality trash! My guilty pleasure! I have discovered though that I like organizing. I

Dealing with a dramatic 3 year old

I am determined to make it through the minute, the hour, the day. I take a deep breath and pray, Dear God, please give me the patience needed to deal with my 3 year old! I sometimes think it's hardest on me because she looks just like me. A mini- me screaming at me! I am by nature, a very calm, easy going person. Being a mother has brought up so much stress and anger that I never knew I had in me. I had no clue how stressful having a toddler could be. My husband and I decided to start her in preschool early to try and give her some time away from Mommy and being in a structured environment. F loves school and her teacher but I not sure it makes time at home better or worse. After school she is tired but refuses to nap. I know she is a strong-willed little girl. I am learning that it is easier to let her pick out her own clothes. That she will survive if she wears a pink shirt and purple pants with a sparkly tutu. I let her wear a pink dress for Christmas and sometimes we wear the s
